Something Happens

WOW! We have had a great several weeks. We had Bailey and Leanne with us for most of June and it was really a sweet blessing. Doug and I were able to go out for dinner, just the two of us, which we have not done in a long time. The girls were a big help and they really became a part of our family! The good news is that on the day we had to drop the girls off at the airport, we picked up my oldest niece Hannah Kate. That meant that we all went from two girls to one but the fun and the blessings continued. 🙂

In other great news within our ministry at Mutai, we have seen 3 salvation’s in the past 2 weeks. The church really seems to be growing and playing a part in outreach as well. As challenging as it can be after already working a 60-70 hour work week for Doug to preach, God is beginning to do amazing things in Mutai. It has not come without difficulty by any means but God is becoming the Victor to so many and it is great to be a part of that. We are still learning daily to love as God loves and serve as God serves. We are learning daily about the struggles in the daily life of a church member in Uganda and it is humbling to say the least. I have never seen so much witchcraft and destruction by demon spirits in my life, yet I have never seen so much humble adoration to a Holy God all in one place.

Mutai is becoming a part of us. At first, I will admit that neither of us were quite sure about this adventure we were being brought into, but now in my heart, I know God has us there for a purpose. I may not ever know what that exact purpose is and that is okay but it is becoming a part of our hearts and I know that is God telling us to stand firm and to hang in. To be real, it is hard to be the one that everyone wants to talk to since you are considered to well, be the one who can help. Yes, you would like to think that some of them come to you because they know you will pray for them and with them but you also know it usually involves needing something also. It is not easy trying to discern who to give what to, who to trust, who really needs, and quite frankly who to choose since we have to choose. It is disturbing sometimes to look into 22 ladies eyes bi weekly and know that many of them probably don’t have food much less school fees for their kids to get to school. Then I hear God speaking to me through messages from my tired worn out husband that says “we need to work as though we are working for the Lord.” We need to serve others as we are serving Jesus. We need to love others as Jesus loves. We need to let others see Jesus in us.

Between the visits from friends and family, the worship at Mutai, the thought of a furlough away from these people we have also grown to love, the many emotional whirlwinds of trying to be discerning of who God is calling us to help, God is quietly telling me that all I have to do is serve Him. He will guide and lead with the rest. God is telling me to just whisper His name and all things are possible. The demons that we deal with here seem way different but the bible says that ALL demons have to flee at the name of Jesus. Words to song comfort me as usual

“Demons have to flee when I say Jesus
Sickness has to heal when I say Jesus
Every knee shall bow before and every tongue confess
with worthy praise
that matchless name of Jesus”

“Something Happens” when we call on the name of Jesus. Not just something happens to the demons and the sickness but something happens to the person that calls the name. When you call the name of Jesus for yourself or for someone else, you are changed. Not just the circumstances, the heart. When you are on the mission field (no matter what mission field), the phrase “Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess” becomes more real. How broken are we that so many people we come in contact with will for sure one day bow before a holy God and may not truly know Him as Lord and Savior. Are we broken for the name of Jesus to heal, are we broken for the name of Jesus to change lives, are we broken enough to tell those we meet? No matter what Demons we deal with, no matter the sickness, no matter the sin, no matter the comfort needed, Jesus is the answer. Jesus is the healer, Jesus is the comforter, Jesus is that matchless name above all other names that deserves the worthy praise of our lips.

Blessings,

  1. Oh Jennifer I’m so blessed by your post. It’s awesome seeing God move in a mighty way in your lives and the lives of His people there. I’m praying for all of you. I pray He will open doors for Charlie and I to go someday. John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I choose you and appointed you to go and best fruit – fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. I pray He provides you with whatever you ask in His name. 1 Cor 2:9 No eye has seen. No ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him. I’m so excited for what all is in store for you guys in Uganda.
