A year ago today….. We were in Charleston preparing to leave for the biggest adventure of our lives as the LawsonTribe4. God was calling us on a very special journey and equipping us to follow that call every step of the way. I can honestly say that this time last year, our family had so many emotions running through us that it was hard to even comprehend in some ways what was going on from day to day. On Aug. 6th, 2013 we were in flight to a new land, a new culture, a new home. We had no idea really what life had in store for us as we landed in Uganda 2 days later. It was hard to leave our comforts and our “home” in Anderson, SC for sure…..but God was preparing for us a new home. It is nothing like what we have ever lived in before and living here has been nothing like anything we have ever experienced. I am reminded many times of Psalm 84:10 “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”
If we would have stayed in SC, even when the Lord was surly calling us to Uganda than no matter where we lived, it would be wicked because we would be in disobedience of our Father. I am reminded of this verse because sometimes I feel like a doorkeeper now. We are in the courts of God because this is where He wants us right now. WOW! We are doorkeepers to the house of our God! It is a wonderful feeling to know that although we still mess up, we still miss SC and “life” there, and we still have so much growing to do, that God has asked us to be the doorkeeper. Not only did He ask but we are trying faithfully to obey and look for what He has in store for us daily. What is God asking of you?
This year has been amazing. I have been reading back through some of my praise journal and some of my blogs and I am just utterly amazed at the work of our God. We have grown by leaps and bounds spiritually and emotionally. Our hearts are forever changed I think in the best way possible. There have been struggles, frustrations, rejoicing, praising, worshiping, and tears for all the above shed by all of us during this year. It has been one of the hardest years of our family, but it has also been one of the best. I don’t think any of us would trade it for anything. We have seen things that only God can do and we have seen things that only Satan can do too. We have the hope of God to share with these people who have such strongholds that we have never delt with. There have been times when we wanted to quit and times when we wanted to be back in America but we remembered that Our God is faithful. He is the one that gets us up each day no matter where we are on Earth and prepares us for the battles we will face. 2 Thessalonians 5:24 ” The one who calls you is Faithful and He will do it.” Hallelujah and Amen!
This title also has a different meaning….Writing this has been a “Trip back” into so many of God’s provisions and discoveries for the LawsonTribe4 but it is also a way to tell you that we have booked flights for a “trip back” to America. This is exciting to think about but also very scary as emotions run wild over how different things will seem. The boys and I will be flying back with the Mt. Airy team on 9/17. We will split in Philadelphia and arrive in Charlotte on 9/18. Doug will not return to the states until Oct. 28th. This is the longest that we have ever been apart in 11 years. Please pray for peace during this time as we both feel it is the best decision for our visit. We will all return to life in Uganda together on Dec. 1st. We hope to see as many of you as possible but as a family we will only be in Anderson for a short time. We are excited and nervous about this visit as we have also grown to love life here and the people we share it with. If you have questions about our return, please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
